blog post 1 journalism major

Blog Post 1: Reasons on why I am a journalism major

Hello, my name is Airion Sanders and there are many reasons why I am majoring in journalism. The first reason why I am majoring in journalism is because writing, among other things, has become one of my most favorite hobbies throughout my academic career. My love for writing came at a time in my life whenever I was feeling lonely and sad. Writing for me was one of the things that would lift me up wherever I felt down.

All throughout elementary and middle school, I have always had a special interest for creative writing. There were times when I would go to a quiet room and sit for hours and hours just writing an imaginative story on imaginary characters that I made up in my mind. Up until high school and the first 2 years of college, was when my interest for writing grew even stronger. However, other than writing, there was another interest that really grasped my attention. Public speaking. Like writing, I have an even deeper interest for communication particularly, public speaking. Although there are more aspects to journalism than writing and speaking, I feel that the purpose of journalism is to inform our society with information and valuable news that can impact our daily lives. I also think that  there is so much that we can learn from  journalism that , without it, the  world would become  ignorant. I also feel that journalism is very important because it gives current and relevant information and news to the public.

There are so many things I aspire to do while majoring in journalism. Someday, I hope to become a motivational speaker, a writer, and even a news reporter. Wherever the direction of journalism takes me, I hope my major will lead me in the direct path that I want to be. Someday, I want to inform our society on certain issues such as issues that are social, racial, and economical sparks a great deal of human interest and also guide  human consciousness into something that can be justified and inclusive to people of different social, economical and ethnic backgrounds. What I hope to gain from this course is to improve my writing skills. The most important thing that I look forward to during the semester is learning some strategies on approaching meaningful topics that appeal to an audience that I want to reach.
